Schindler's Factory

The factory founded in 1937 produced enamelled and plate articles. Leased and then taken over by a German entrepreneur, Oskar Schindler, in 1939, as German Enamelled Products Factory – Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik (DEF), was managed by Schindler until 1945. The plant is situated in Lipowa street, in the heart of Kraków' Zabłocie district. Schindler employed Jews that were threatened to be exterminated, they were entered into the so-called Schindler's List and rescued from holocaust.
The history of the factory and its owner was described in Schindler's Ark novel by Australian novelist, Thomas Keneally and Steven Spielberg directed the Schindler's List film based on the novel which was largely filmed in Poland.
